Local Attractions

We are a member of the following organisations:

Acton Scott - Victorian Farm

Tucked away in the South Shropshire Hills, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is the historic and privately owned country estate of Acton Scott.

Acton Scott is well known for its historic working farm, open to the public from April to October. It stocks many rare and traditional breeds of animal and provides daily demonstrations of traditional 19th-century crafts, whilst the land around is worked with heavy horses.

Acton Scott is the film location for a prime time BBC2 television series, Victorian Farm.

Severn Valley Railway

The Severn Valley Railway is a full-size standard-gauge railway line running regular steam-hauled passenger trains between Kidderminster in Worcestershire and Bridgnorth in Shropshire.

The route closely follows the meandering course of the River Severn for most of the journey.

One highlight of the trip is the crossing of the River Severn by means of the Victoria Bridge which, incidentally, features in the film ‘The Thirty-nine Steps’ with Robert Powell in the leading role.

West Midlands Safari Park

West Midlands Safari Park contains many animals that are on the IUCN’s endangered list, including the Asian buffalo, Philippine spotted deer, African wild dog, banteng, aye-aye and the Madagascan jumping rat, along with the critically endangered addax, Bactrian camel, Pére David’s deer, Bengal tiger, Amur leopard and Rodrigues flying fruit bats.

The park contains the largest pride of white lions in the UK and one of the largest herds of common hippopotamus in Europe can be found at the park. There are lots of places to picnic, souvenir shops to browse and places to eat, along with an amusement area which is packed with family fun rides and games.

Ironbridge Gorge

Ironbridge Gorge comprises ten award-winning Museums spread along the valley beside the wild River Severn – still spanned by the world’s first Iron Bridge.

See the products that set the industry on its path and the machines that made them.

Watch and talk to the Museums’ craftsmen and costumed demonstrators as they work iron, fashion china and glass, and bring alive the people who lived and worked here.

The Fighting Cocks Pub

The Fighting Cocks bar offers you a true Shropshire welcome – serving 5 CAMRA accredited real ales, of course all from the area, a wide selection of local wines, from local suppliers, and a good lager choice.
Eat anywhere, drink anywhere is our policy, but if you prefer a more formal experience, you can hide away in one of the dining areas, either upstairs in the oak-beamed Hayloft room, at the rear in the cosy snug or our newly refurbished function room to indulge on the daily menu.
